Civil Partnerships

A significant change concerning the legal status of same sex relationships occurred on 5 December 2005.  The Civil Partnership Act was passed and afforded same sex couples an identical status to married couples with the same remedies available during the lifetime and on death or should the relationship otherwise come to an end.  This law gives same sex relationships the same legal rights as traditional heterosexual married couples.
